Summer 2023 Update: Mexico & Zambia

The Lord has been working in my heart lately. I thought of you as someone I’d like to share this with and ask you to consider supporting me.

As you may know, I’ve been serving at Camp Sonshine for 8 summers. This year is my 9th! I started at camp as a media intern. I was tasked with taking photos and putting together the weekly highlight videos. I realized that in those first couple of years, I hid behind the camera in fear, and witnessed some crazy, amazing things that God was doing in the life of campers and fellow staff. Little did I know, the Lord was doing something in my life and heart as well. As I saw campers come back week after week, summer after summer. I saw them grow in their ability to trust others and trust in the Lord – some for the first time! In my own life, I went from a pretty closed-off and anxious person to a professional childcare expert….who can dance. Because of my camp experience and the love of God, I am no longer an extremely anxious person, but rather a confident leader of people. The people at Camp Sonshine have not only changed my life, but also had a huge impact on my family. My parents now serve in many capacities, and my niece has had wonderful camp counselors walk with her through some hard times. Isn’t it amazing to have passionate young adults care for your kids and the kids you know and love?!

I take great pride in coaching and training our staff to become great counselors and people with a heart to love children and teens. Seeing them succeed in sharing the gospel and managing a group of campers is so rewarding! I also take great joy in meeting and getting to know you and your campers.

After 8 years, I’ve felt a calling to participate in two Camp Sonshine International programs this coming year. My goal is to travel with our teams to Mezcales, Mexico and Zambia, Africa.

In Mexico, we put on a 1-week program for two different communities in impoverished neighborhoods alongside missionaries Lee & Carol Short and Vida Internacional.

In Zambia, we will be helping an organization called Partners for Life Advancement and Education Promotion (PLAEP.org) start a camp program for the first time. We recently became connected with this organization and it is a very interesting story if you ever want to hear about it! Our long term goal as a ministry is to provide 10,000 camp experiences in one year where campers BELONG & BECOME. These international initiatives are one way that could help us get there!

I’m super excited to help the Mexico team with making memories with campers & capturing memories for everyone there. I’m also excited to be attending with my parents, who speak Spanish. They will be translators on our trip! I’m even more excited to be able to pioneer a new experience across the world in Africa.

So you may be asking yourself, “where do I fit into this?” I would love your support in two ways:

  1. PRAYER – My first and biggest request is that you would join with me in this calling from the Lord through prayer! I know that I can do nothing apart from Christ, and it is through His power alone that these programs will have any impact on the people around me! If you do decide to commit to being on my prayer team, please let me know so that I can send you updates and specific prayer requests! I ask for prayer for our teams as we prepare. In Luke 10:02 it says “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” Please be praying for the Lord to work through us and the camp experiences we have the opportunity to provide.
  2. FINANCIAL GIFTS – I would also ask that you would prayerfully consider supporting me financially. My goal for financial support is a total of $5,000. $2,000 goes to mine and my mom’s mission to Mexico. $3,000 goes to my mission to Zambia. These amounts include general costs of the trip and flights to get there and back! Any gift, big or small, is greatly appreciated. If a tax deductible financial gift is something you feel called to do:
    1. Checks can be made payable to Camp Sonshine (13440 S 25th St, Roca, NE 68430) or
    2. You can give online at CampSonshineMemories.org/Give.
    3. (Please include “Adrianna” on a separate note in the envelope or in the comments online.)

Ultimately, I’m excited to go on some adventures with some amazing people in the name of Jesus. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me!

Loving children in Jesus’ name,

Adrianna “Banana” Tarin
